Marmaris Castle and Harbour:
The Marmaris Museum is located in the historical Marmaris Castle. The castle was built on a peninsula, dominating the sea behind Marmaris Harbor. The first information about Marmaris Castle is provided by the historian Herodotus, who lived between 490-425 BC. Herodotus states that the castle was initially built in 3000 BC. During this time, Physkos (Marmaris), which was a Carian city, served as a passage between the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas, maintaining its importance throughout the ages with its harbor opening to trade routes to Rhodes and Egypt.
